The Summer Enrichment Program

 Posted June 7, 2018

The Summer Enrichment Program is a free six-week summer program for youth in the Montclair area (including Bloomfield and Belleville) that provides a safe positive outlet during the summer.  (The only cost is $10 for a program t-shirt.)

The program meets at Glenfield Park in the Wally Choice Community Center where certified teachers, mentors, and counselors provide enrichment and tutorial sessions for the students.  At the end of the evening the youth play a friendly (but competitive) game of basketball under the guidance of a coach.

Youth are separated into two age groups:

  • Junior Division:     9 - 12 year olds

  • Senior Division:  13 - 18 year olds

Educational Component Mandatory Academic Support

 Posted June 7, 2018

During the first week of the program, all participants will be evaluated by certified teachers to determine the level of academic support needed in the following areas:  Math, Science, Computer Science and Reading.  Participants will attend daily sessions taught by certified teachers.  These sessions are mandatory.  Failure to attend (without prior communication) will result in suspension from the next scheduled recreational activity.  Ongoing attendance issues will result in suspension from the program.

Participants who are identified as not needing the group academic support sessions will not be required to attend them, once approved by Mr. Davis, Executive Director.  They will be assigned to weekly academic projects or topics that they can research and write a paper on their own.  The weekly paper is due by 5:00 pm on the following Monday at which time it will be reviewed for acceptability.
